Volunteer Gardening Group

Our monthly volunteer gardening group was started to bring people together and build a community within Herongate Wood.

We started our Volunteer Gardening group on the 19th of July 2022 and it is held monthly. With them alternating between a Saturday and a Tuesday to hopefully suit everybody’s schedules.

We wanted a way to build a community and connect people in similar life situations together and create friendships. It’s also a way for people to be involved in the development of Herongate wood, we like to talk openly about plans for the future giving the volunteers the chance to help shape the future of Herongate.

The group is run by the owners of Herongate Wood Cemetery.

We try to work through a number of activities throughout the year.

These include:

*Monthly Plot Tidy Guidelines:

*Plot tidying is carried out on plots with signed permission slips from families only. Plots are only tidied during our monthly Volunteer Gardening club, subject to volunteer availability. Guidelines and limitations apply.

Tidying plots that are on our plot tidy list- these are the plots of peoples loved one that can no longer get to Herongate Wood to look after the plot themselves or to help families who would like their plots tidied. Families who have shown an interest in having their plot tidied will need to provide a signed permission slip for their plot to be tidied.

We provide all plants and equipment. We end every group with a sit down, refreshments and a good chat.

“One of our regular volunteers Alan likes to call it cake club instead of gardening group as we always make sure there is at least two types of homemade baked goods every time we meet.”
